Frequently Asked Questions

What is Novana?

Novana is the brand name of my freelance marketing business. I’m Natali, a Freelance Marketing Manager / Project Manager and when I first decided to go out on my own I didn’t want to put everything under my personal name. I wanted a brand that felt separate but still captured how I work.

The name Novana comes from “Nova”, a burst of bright energy which represents the way I step into businesses to bring fresh ideas and momentum. To make it unique, I added my initials, creating Novana.

Where are you based?

I live in Kent and work from Dragon Co-working in Rochester. One of the great things about hiring a marketing freelancer is that I work remotely, so if you are further afield, I can still support your marketing.

What does a freelance marketing manager do?

A freelance marketing manager is basically an extra pair of hands (and brain) to help run your marketing without you having to hire in-house. Every freelancer offers slightly different services, but the role usually covers strategy, campaign planning, and day-to-day delivery.

In my case, that includes things like:

  • Email marketing strategy and campaign management
  • Website design, updates, and maintenance
  • Event planning and promotion
  • Market insights, analytics, and reporting
  • Social media management and paid advertising campaigns

Sometimes I jump in for a one-off project, like setting up an ad campaign. Other times, I act more like your outsourced marketing manager, giving you the benefits of in-house support, just without the overheads.

How does outsourcing marketing compare to hiring in-house?

Hiring an in-house marketing manager can be great, but it’s also a big commitment. You’re covering salary, holidays, training, and all the time it takes to recruit the right person.

When you outsource your marketing to a freelancer like me, you skip the headache and get someone who can hit the ground running. It’s flexible too, you can scale support up or down depending on what your business needs at the time.

What types of businesses benefit most from an outsourced marketing manager?

Any business can benefit from outsourced marketing support, it really depends on their goals. In my experience, small and medium-sized businesses often see the biggest impact.

These are usually companies that have outgrown the DIY marketing they started with and now need expert help to take things further. Whether it’s building a strategy, running campaigns, or simply freeing up time for the business owner, an outsourced freelance marketing manager can step in to provide the expertise without the cost of hiring in-house.

How much does it cost to hire a freelance marketing manager?

The cost of hiring a freelance marketing manager varies depending on the person and the project. Most freelancers charge an hourly rate or package fee. For me, that’s usually between £35 and £45 per hour, depending on the package.

What’s the difference between a marketing freelancer and a marketing agency?

All agencies are different, but generally speaking a freelancer is a solo marketing professional. Sometimes they are focused on one area like SEO, or a generalist like me who covers lots of different marketing needs. An agency is a bigger team with different specialists, which can be great for larger projects but usually comes with higher costs. With a freelancer, you often get more flexibility and direct, personal support.

Can a freelance marketing manager work alongside my existing team?

Yes, absolutely! One of the best things about hiring a freelance marketing manager is the flexibility. I can slot in to support your existing team where they need extra help, or work solo and handle things myself, depending on what works best for you. My goal is always the same: to make sure you’re getting the most out of your marketing resources.

How do I know if outsourcing marketing is right for my business?

The easiest way to find out is to try. Outsourcing your marketing is much more flexible than hiring in-house, so there’s little risk in testing it out. If you’re unsure, we can have an initial chat about your goals and options to see if it’s the right fit. And depending on your situation, sometimes hiring someone in-house might be the better move. It’s all about what works best for your business.

What kind of marketing strategies do you create?

It really depends on your business and goals. I like to start with a deep dive into what you are already doing and then spot any gaps or opportunities to reach your target audience more effectively. From there, I create a marketing strategy that is tailored to your business, whether that means building brand awareness, generating leads, or supporting long-term growth.

Can you manage both strategy and day-to-day execution?

Yes, absolutely. As a freelance marketing manager, this is what I do best. I can help you create a strategy that fits your business, then put it into action. Most clients like to work with me on a retainer so we can build momentum, but I also take on one-off projects if you just need support with something specific.

Do you offer social media management as part of your services?

Yes, I do. Social media management can be part of your overall strategy or a standalone project. I can help manage organic posts on platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X (Twitter) and Reddit. Depending on the support you need, I can also create content, respond to messages, and handle engagement so your online presence stays consistent.

Can you help with SEO and content marketing?

Yes, definitely. Small businesses often overlook SEO, but it is one of the most valuable ways to build long-term visibility online. I can create a content plan that targets your audience, optimise your website and blog posts, and improve your presence on Google and in AI search results.

Can you help with email campaigns?

Yes, I can. Whether you are starting from scratch or looking to improve what you already have, I can help set up and manage your email marketing campaigns. This includes writing and sending emails, creating automations, and making sure everything follows GDPR best practices.

Can you help with paid advertising?

Yes, I can. I manage Google Ads, Meta Ads, LinkedIn Ads, TikTok Ads, and can also recommend alternatives based on your budget, audience, and goals. Sometimes external listings or niche platforms are a better fit, and I will guide you toward the channels that give the best results for your business.

Can you help plan and coordinate events?

Yes, absolutely. Events are one of my favourite things to work on. I can help you organise, promote and coordinate everything from conferences and workshops to staff away days, celebrations, or even weddings. My role is to make sure the event runs smoothly and gets the right attention from your audience.

Do you offer any other services?

Yes, I do. Alongside being a experienced marketing manager, I also work as a project manager and can support ad-hoc projects that your team doesn’t have time to set up. This could be things like implementing a CRM, coordinating a rebrand, or managing a website redevelopment. I am also happy to coordinate projects across teams to keep everything on track. And if you are not sure whether I can help, it is always worth asking.

How do you measure the success of a marketing campaign?

Success looks different for every business, so I always start by agreeing clear KPIs and goals with you. From there, I track campaign performance through regular reports, looking at things like reach, engagement, leads, and conversions. This makes it easy to see what is working and where we can improve, so your marketing keeps getting better over time.

How quickly can you start working on my marketing?

It usually depends on the size of the project and how quickly we can get everything set up. The best first step is to book a call with me so I can understand your goals and give you a realistic timeframe.

How do you work with clients remotely?

It really depends on the business and how they prefer to work. I am flexible and can usually adapt to whatever communication style suits you best. Having worked fully remote for over three years, I am comfortable running things in the background and checking in with clients through regular calls or in-person meetings when needed. This flexibility is one of the big benefits of hiring a freelance marketing manager.

Do you provide regular reports on marketing performance?

Yes, I do. For me, reporting is not just about tracking numbers, it is how you make decisions and improve results. I provide monthly reports that show what is working and what is not, so we can adjust strategies and make sure your marketing keeps moving forward.

How often will we meet to review results?

It really depends on your package and what your business needs. As a minimum, I like to meet once a month to review results and plan next steps, but we can meet more often if you prefer more regular check-ins.

Can you work on a project basis or do you only offer ongoing support?

I am flexible. If you need help with a one-off project or a specific area of marketing, I can step in and get things moving. If you are looking for longer-term support, I also offer ongoing outsourced marketing management. It all comes down to what works best for your business.

How do you stay updated with the latest marketing trends?

I stay up to date by attending conferences, completing regular training, and being part of marketing community groups. This helps me keep on top of changes across different areas of marketing and means I can offer my clients the best and most relevant freelance marketing support.

What industries do you have experience in?

I have worked with a wide range of industries including education, the third sector, local councils, SaaS, retail, and small businesses. My background covers both B2B and B2C marketing, which makes me adaptable to different challenges. I also enjoy working in new industries, so I am always excited to bring fresh ideas to unfamiliar sectors.

Can you guarantee results from marketing campaigns?

No, and to be honest, no good marketing professional or agency can. What I can guarantee is that I will work hard to get the most out of your campaigns and make sure you see real value from your marketing investment.
